A non-partisan youth climate education nonprofit whose Learning Lab and CALP framework already reach over 850,000 high schoolers and 6,200 educators worldwide.
The Climate Initiative (TCI) supplies the no-cost curriculum foundation for every Growing Green Leaders participant: Lessons 1–3 of the Climate Action Leadership Program (CALP), developed in collaboration with Rotarian John Mathers, which build climate literacy, help students analyze local impacts, and guide them to design community solutions.
TCI also powers the optional Action Bridge — the TCI Changemaker Award: Student Edition — offering grant funding, technical assistance, and direct mentorship to high schoolers who want to take their video’s proposed solution off the screen and into their community. Schools that want to go further can integrate TCI’s full Learning Lab curriculum at no cost.
The Climate Initiative is a non-partisan youth climate education nonprofit whose flagship Climate Action Leadership Program (CALP) has its roots in the Gulf of Maine Field Studies, a place-based program built on the belief that meaningful climate action starts locally. Its Learning Lab now incorporates climate change modules into interdisciplinary curriculum reaching over 6,300 educators and more than 800,000 students worldwide.
The Climate Initiative is co-founded and led by Executive Director Leia Lowery, who also serves as a Director on the Rotary Climate Action Team and Growing Green Leaders Co-Chair.
Growing Green Leaders is a partnership between The Environmental Xperience, the Rotary Club of Newport Beach, The 7 Seas Foundation, the Rotary Climate Action Team, and the education organizations powering the curriculum.
